Jaclyn Jose deletes retirement post; clarifies she still has 2 years contract with GMA

Veteran actress Jaclyn Jose surprised netizens when she announced on social media that she has decided to retire from showbiz. However, she has retracted the statement after realizing that she still has a contract with GMA Network.

Early Thursday, Jaclyn said that although it hurts, she knows that she already has to go.

“I am retiring…. Marami po salamat…. Masakit but.. I know I have to go….” she said in a post which she later deleted.

She said that she loves her children so she came up with this decision. “I just sooooo luv Andi and Gwen most and foremost to have come into this.”

But according to PEP, Jaclyn still has an existing contract with GMA so she cannot retire yet. “I wanted to but I still have 2 years contract with GMA. I have to finish my contract. Akala ko, expired na [but] my RM told me na hindi pa,” Jaclyn explained.

In an old interview, Jaclyn said that acting is her only source of income and she enjoys spending time with her ‘extended family’ especially since her children are living far from her.

“Let’s be real, it’s pandemic, two years na. I don’t have any other source of income other than this, and this is what I do best in my life, to act. This is what I love to do and no one can take that away from me,” she said then.

“Nandiyan ang COVID, oo, pero hindi rin ako mabubuhay nang hindi umaarte at hindi nakakasama ang extended family ko. Yung mga katrabaho sa pelikula, mga make up artists, stylists, cook, members of doing a film or teleserye, extended family ko ‘yan. Malalayo ang mga anak ko. I’m alone lang in my house and yun talaga ang passion ko e, to portray and give back dun sa blessing.”

Her career started in 1984 when she became part of “Chikas.” Her real name is Mary Jane Santa Ana Guck.

In 2016, Jaclyn won best actress at the Cannes Film Festival for her role in Brillante Mendoza’s Ma’ Rosa.
