“Bato” challenges 20 drug lords to gun duel

Incoming PNP Chief Ronald Dela Rosa challenged drug lords to gun duel
• The drug lords reportedly raised P1-billion bounty to have Dela Rosa and Duterte assassinated
• Dela Rosa proposed that the P1-billion bounty be used instead as pot money for the gun duel

Incoming Philippine National Police Chief Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa challenged 20 drug kingpins serving time in the national penitentiary, who reportedly raised P1 billion to have him and President-elect Rodrigo Duterte assassinated, to gun duel.

Dela Rosa, called “Bato” because of his “rock-like” physique, proposed that the P1-billion bounty be turned into pot money for the duel.

“I have a proposal for them. That P1-billion bounty, let’s turn that into pot money. There are 20 of you Chinese drug lords or whoever drug lords are there: I challenge you to a [quick] draw. Man versus man,” he said during a media briefing at Camp Crame on Tuesday, June 14.

He said if he is lucky enough to win the gun duel, he would donate his winnings to fund the construction of a drug rehabilitation facility. He said he will identify the region in the Philippines with the most number of drug addicts and build the facility there.

Dela Rosa said the drug lords may set the place and time of the gun duel at their own convenience, adding he is ready anytime, anywhere.

The incoming PNP chief would not confirm nor deny several reports that said convicted drug lord Peter Co initiated the raising of bounty for the assassination plot.

“I don’t confirm or deny it. It’s up to Peter Co to think if he is indeed the one,” Dela Rosa said.

A Tempo article mentioned that when asked for his reaction about the report that Peter Co requested to be transferred to the Iwahig Penal Colony in Palawan, Dela Rosa remarked: “You cannot run. You cannot hide. The long arm of the law will catch you, wherever you go.”
