  • Bidders paid thousands of dollars for Prince’s guitar and Bowie’s hair
  • More than $150,000 were spent for the items

More than $150,000, all in all, were spent by bidders for Prince’s iconic “Yellow Cloud” guitar and David Bowie’s hair in an auction in Beverly Hills.

In an Agence France-Presse article that was posted on GMA News Online, it was disclosed that Heritage Auctions said Prince’s guitar was sold at $137,500; while the snippet of Bowie’s pale blond hair went for $18,750.

Prince’s guitar

Prince’s guitar became iconic as he was rarely photographed during the late 1980s without his bright yellow maple wood instrument; complete with a distinctive elongated upper horn.

“As celebrity stage-used instruments go, this piece is as unique as Beethoven’s piano or John Coltrane’s saxophone,” Garry Shrum, Heritage’s director of music memorabilia said when it was put up for sale.

The Yellow Cloud was used in the studio, in videos and at gigs until the neck broke on a French.

It was repaired, but confined to the recording studio and eventually made way for the “Symbol” guitar identified with Prince’s later work.

According to unconfirmed reports, Prince’s iconic musical instrument had gone to Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay.

Bowie’s hair

Bowie’s hair, meanwhile, came from a former employee of Madame Tussauds in London who had used it to recreate the music icon’s 1983 hairdo.

Prince and Bowie

Prince and Bowie, two of the most influential artists in pop history, died within months earlier this year.

Prince, the “Purple Rain” singer, died reportedly due to an opioid overdose.

Bowie, the so-called “Thin White Duke”, on the other hand, succumbed to cancer.
