EDGEWATER, Colorado – A waiter thought it was the best day of his life after a drunk customer gave him $1000 (P46,400) tip for a $60 (P2,790) meal; however, his joy was short-lived when the customer became sober and returned the next day to get it back.
Kirstie McCrum mentioned in her article for Mirror Co UK that the unidentified customer dined at the Thailicious restaurant in Edgewater, Colorado.
The story goes that the drunk diner was treated with a meal which he found really well that he wanted to give a reward for it.
The waiter was shocked when he saw the reward which turned out to be $1,000 as a tip.
The waiter took it to his boss, Bee Anantatho, who was also thrilled about what happened. However, he warned the waiter to hold on to the money overnight.
Anantatho said her staff’s response was pure happiness because of the tip.
“He said he’d read a lot of stories like this, but usually, the tip is a couple hundred dollars, not $1,000,” Anantatho said as quoted by Colleen O’Connor in her article for the Denver Post. “He was so happy,” she added.
The following day, the same customer became sober and returned to the restaurant red faced.
“He said, ‘I’m sorry, I was drunk.’ He didn’t know he put all the money he had in the checkbook,” Anantatho said.
The customer paid the bill and gave around $100 tip instead of $1,000.
“We’ve been opened for almost three years. Lots of unbelievable stories happened at Thailicious. This is one of the most memorable things,” Anantatho said on the restaurant’s Facebook page.
“It might sound funny but for us, it’s our pride. We felt really good and never hesitated to return the money to our guest,” she added.
