MANILA, Philippines – The father of the three young children found abandoned and chained inside their home in Quezon City for three days has finally returned — and he wants them back.

In an interview with ABS-CBN, a sobbing Jose Medina placed the blame on his wife whom he said abandoned their children while he was away looking for work. He also denied he is a bad father and requested social services to return his children to him.

However, a neighbor of Medina belied his claim that he was looking for work.

According to John Michael Ancheta, Medina told him he was leaving their three children to look for his wife who regularly leaves them.

“I told him ‘why do you want to look for your wife, she’s a grown-up,’” he said.

Maribel Cayco, head of the Community Outreach Division of Quezon City’s Social Services Department, said they will not give his children back to him because he might just abandon them again. Instead, they will file a case against Medina and his wife for abandonment.

Cayco added they have also recommended a drug test for Medina after several drug paraphernalia were found inside their home.

The condition of the three children — aged 3-years, 1-year, and 8 months old — has since improved after they were hospitalized and fed by rescuers.
