Good news, commuters! Globe Telecom will be providing free Wi-Fi services in all Metro Rail Transit (MRT) Line 3 stations.
In an article written by Maricel Burgonio of Manila Bulletin, it was disclosed that about 350,000 commuters will benefit from the free Wi-Fi that will be provided by Globe; as it expands network capacities in major areas where there is commuter traffic. The MRT commuters will have free internet access for 30 minutes daily.
According to Globe, it secured the support of the Department of Transport and Communication (DOTC) to use MRT-3 train stations to host network infrastructure in order to improve the mobile internet experience and connectivity of the commuting public.
“This partnership is a milestone expected to improve the experience of the public riding the MRT, including those in the communities surrounding the MRT stations. We hope to change the experience of our customers in high foot-traffic areas and strategic locations, such as public transport systems,” Joel Agustin, Globe senior vice president for program governance, said.
The Globe Telecom official noted that the project aims to help address issues on mobile signals along EDSA, especially during rush hours.
“With the support of government agencies such as the operators of the MRT Line 3, we hope to change the experience of our customers in high foot traffic areas and strategic locations such as public transport systems,” he stated.
“By providing a reliable mobile and Wi-Fi internet connectivity, our customers will be able to catch up on emails, keep updated on online entertainment and other communication requirements to further enhance their digital lifestyle even while on their way to work or after work,” Agustin further noted.
