ONTARIO, Canada – A heartbreaking photo showing a husband and wife, both in their hospital beds in intensive care unit, said goodbye to each other by holding hands.
Rachel Bishop mentioned in her article for The Mirror published on May 21 that Chris Minnini, 21 years old, shared the picture of his parents Jim Minnini and Cindy Ireland who are on life support after Jim wished to be with his wife in his final moments.
The couple were initially placed in separate rooms when they were rushed to the same hospital; however, Jim was “adamant” that he wanted to be with his wife Cindy, with whom he has been married for 23 years.
The incredible and tear-jerking moment when the couple bid goodbye to each other was captured by Chris’ brother at Kingston General Hospital in Ontario, Canada; just a few hours before Jim lost his battle with lung cancer.
Cindy, who suffered a heart attack, is now recovering at home after she was discharged from the hospital.
“I know that if my dad wanted to be remembered at all, it would’ve been for loving my mum,” Chris said as quoted by Tanveer Mann in an article for Metro.
“My mum was sedated in that picture, which is why we had to wait to do the service for my dad until yesterday because she never got to properly say goodbye,” Chris explained.
“The first question she asked when she woke up was ‘where’s dad?’ – she knew instantly,” the son said.
Chris said that it is the first time the hospital allowed two patients on life support to be brought together in the same room.
“My friends said to me that you see your parents but we see true love, so even if nobody saw it, it wouldn’t have mattered to me,” Chris said; adding that he has no regret posting the photo on Reddit.
As of posting, Jim and Cindy’s photo on Reddit had been viewed nearly two million times.
