JILIN, China – A man from China is making headlines all over the globe for balancing a 40-kilogram rock on his head in a bid to lose weight.

Alicia Tan mentioned in her article for Mashable published on June 23 that Cong Yan, a 54-year-old man from Jilin, does his daily walks with a 40-kilogram rock balancing on his head, which he said helped him lose 30 kilograms in the last three years.

Yan is said to be a familiar but unusual sight in Jilin parks as he walks every day on narrow pathways, ascending and descending steps while a heavy-looking block of solid concrete dangles on top of his head.

An article by South China Morning Post said that Yan’s unusual routine started three years ago when he realized he was in the worst shape all of his life.

Yan, who is 1.63 meters (5 foot 3 inches) and weighs 115 kilograms, started worrying that the obesity was taking a toll on his physical health.

“I didn’t want to take diet pills, so I decided to lose weight by doing more exercises,” Yan said.

Instead of the traditional and regular exercise, he decided to place a 15-kilogram stone on his head and walked as far as he could. As he gets used to the weight, he replaced the stone with a 30-kilogram one and also increased the distance he traveled by walking every day,

At present, Yan walks up to more than 3 kilometers every day with a 40-kilogram block of concrete on his head. The man said his routine is effective as he had lost 30 kilograms and says he is in a much better shape than when he first started out.

The man shared that he is considering approaching Guinness about getting his “trendy” physical routine featured in their Book of Records.
