Kobe Bryant returns to Manila on Saturday

The “Black Mamba”, Kobe Bryant, is coming back to the Philippines.

Bryant is scheduled to return to Manila for the Mamba Mentality Tour from June 25 to 26.

Bryant, 37, who spent his 20-year career playing for the Los Angeles Lakers, would be making a first return to the country after his retirement from the NBA.

During the tour, there will be a Kobe Academy Pre-Camp basketball session on June 22 to 24. The event is organized by Nike. The basketball camp will help young Filipino basketball players to hone their skills and basketball IQs. Those selected will train with Black Mamba himself on Sunday, June 26.

To qualify for the Kobe Academy, potential players are invited to join the Kobe Academy Pre-Camp from June 22 to 24 and be prepared to be challenged with 4AM training sessions — similar to Bryant’s early morning training sessions; preceding the team’s formal practices.

Bryant will be the second player from the Lakers to visit the country after Fil-Am Jordan Clarkson came, joined Gilas Pilipinas’ practice and left a couple of weeks ago. Bryant has, however, visited the country several times, but this will be the first time since he officially retired this year.

Bryant averaged 25 points, 5.o rebounds and 4.7 assists in his 20-year career since started playing in 1996. He is a five-time NBA champion (2000, 2001, 2002, 2009 and 2010) and 18-time NBA All Star player. He is also the 2008 NBA Most Valuable Player and a member of the US Olympic team which won a gold medal in 2008 and 2012.
