LA Tenorio: Gilas players need to step up in Marcio Lassiter’s absence

  • Tenorio said Gilas must hone their shooting skills to make up for Lassiter’s absence
  • He said it would be a problem if their opponents see they only have Chan as a shooter
  • Lassiter, who has been battling bronchitis, has been cut from the Gilas pool

Gilas Pilipinas veteran LA Tenorio said that the 14-man lineup of the Philippine National Basketball Team must thoroughly hone their shooting skills to make up for Marcio Lassiter’s absence.

The players included in the 14-man line-up are:

  • Jayson Castro (TNT)
  • LA Tenorio (Barangay Ginebra)
  • Ranidel De Ocampo (TNT)
  • June Mar Fajardo (San Miguel Beer)
  • Marc Pingris (Star Hotshots)
  • Japeth Aguilar (Barangay Ginebra)
  • Terrence Romeo (GlobalPort)
  • Troy Rosario (TNT)
  • Ryan Reyes (TNT)
  • Andray Blatche (GlobalPort)
  • Gabe Norwood (Rain or Shine)
  • Jeff Chan (Rain or Shine)
  • Calvin Abueva (Alaska)
  • Ray Parks

Out of the 14 players, two will be placed on the reserved list for the upcoming 2016 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament.

Lassiter, who has been battling bronchitis, was the last one to be cut from the team.

Without, Lassiter, the team is down to one shooter — Jeff Chan.

Tenorio said in an interview with FOX Sports that everyone needs to step up and become threats to their opponents.

He added that if their opponents see that they only have Chan as a shooter, they can easily block his attacks.

Tenorio welcomed the inclusion of  two-time UAAP MVP Bobby Ray Parks to the pool; adding that Parks, who can play  1, 2 and 3 positions, is perfect for the system.

He also praised the latter’s shooting skills.

Gilas Pilipinas left on Friday, June 10, for an intensive training camp in Karpenisi, Greece.

After the training camp, they will have a tune-up match against Turkey on June 21 before taking part in a 4-nation pocket tournament in Italy.

These are all part of the team’s preparation for the upcoming  2016 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament.

The tournament will run from July 5 to 10 and only the winners of each of the groupings will qualify for the Rio Olympic Games.

Gilas will face-off the powerhouse team of France on the first day.

  1. To the International Group – Shut the “f” up & Back off!!
You can only say so much but you can’t really help!
Regardless of what one country do, you’re always there to pry and have your negative comments!
Anyway, that’s where you’re best at, saying so much.

  2. ATTN HUMAN RIGHTS WATCH… YOU have not seen the quarters of Co, Colangco & Sebastian? Also now you talk, this has been like this since Cory Aquino’s time,.30 yrs. ago all through BS Aquino’s presidency. As a matter of fact BS Aquino sold hectares of land owned by the gov’t, part & parcel of the Bureau of Corrections compound which exacerbated the congestion yet YOU said nothing But never mind don’t worry, now with Duterte this will be definitely corrected. We will decongest the jails with the Death penalty reinstated, we will kill them instead of housing them in purgatory like jails, or spend any more money feeding them. My suggestion stop the knee jerk reaction & putting your foot in your mouth, because for years we were suffering YOU did nothing, I REPEAT YOU DID NOTHING, NOT A PEEP FROM YOU now you are all over us..Get real. We have lived long without you, without your help weve learned you are nothing but useless group of people who pick & choose with bias whose human rights should be protected so get out of our country & stay out!

  3. You are welcome to use your money to build a facility to ease lives of these inmates, other than that, you are useless, you are nothing but agitators.
