- Marvel did not offer Liza Soberano to play Mary Jane in “Spider-Man: Homecoming”
- Soberano said it’s the fans who suggested she’s fit to play the part
- She said it’s still be a big opportunity if she’d be offered the role
MANILA, Philippines – Liza Soberano denied that she received an offer from Marvel to play Peter Parker’s love interest, Mary Jane, in the new “Spider-Man” film.
The “Dolce Amore” lead actress said in an interview with MJ Felipe of ABS-CBN News before she left for Italy that the rumors started when her fans got hyped up by one Filipina Marvel fan’s idea that Soberano is fit to play the part of Mary Jane in “Spider-Man: Homecoming”
She said: “It’s not really an invitation. I think it was what the fans wanted lang, fans of Marvel. I think one of them is Pinay and parang she tweeted that, parang kung merong magiging Mary Jane Watson [if someone’s going to play Mary Jane Watson], she would want it to be me. All my fans started retweeting it and everything but wala naman po talagang [there really was no] invitation.”
However, the 18-year-old actress added that it would be an honor and a big opportunity for her if she would be offered to play the role.
“I would love that. That would be a nice opportunity,” she said.
Soberano’s “Dolce Amore” co-star and rumored boyfriend, Enrique Gil said he will give his full support if it’s going to be a good opportunity for Soberano.
“If it is a good opportunity para sa kanya [for her], go na go ako [I’ll all for it]. Tamang-tama dahil ‘yung mom niya, favorite superhero si Spider-Man [That would be great because her mom’s favorite superhero is Spider-Man],” he said.
“Spider-Man: Homecoming” is set to be released on July 7, 2017, and 20-year-old Tom Hollan, who was introduced as Peter Parker / Spider-Man in the 2016 film “Captain America: Civil War”, will reprise his role.
