Writing a good curriculum vitae (CV) can be one of the toughest challenges in job hunting. Some spend time doing research to make their copies pleasing and appealing. And this talented jobseeker named Sumukh Mehta is no exemption as he went more than the extra mile to ensure his CV stood out and it paid off.
An article published by The Mirror stated that the 21-year-old man from Bangalore, India managed to get one of British GQ’s prestigious internships even without passing through an interview because of his CV.
Talented as he is, Sumukh created a full 20-page mock-up of an edition of GQ, using information about himself and his professional experience instead of editorial content. It took him three weeks to perfect his CV which he later sent via courier to the GQ offices in New York, London and Mumbai.
In a Facebook post, he described the process by writing: “It took me more than three weeks to make this resume including the photo shoots, graphic designing and content writing.”
Sumukh further posted: “In today’s competitive world, everything is just so difficult that you need to be creative if you really want to make things work and that’s what I did.”
The end-result of his ingenuity resulted to an instant outcome as the polished and professional spread caught the eye of Dylan Jones, the Editor-in-Chief of British GQ.
Aside from Dylan, Sumukh’s hard work was also recognized by Che Kurrien, editor of India’s GQ magazine.
As a piece of advice for jobseekers: Find inspiration from Sumukh and you will certainly go places.
