PNoy praises outgoing PNP Chief Ricardo Marquez for outstanding service

  • Pres. Benigno Aquino III thanked outgoing PNP Dir. Gen. Ricardo Marquez
  • Marquez officially retired from the police force after 38 years in service
  • Aquino himself is set to step down after serving his six-year term as President

President Benigno Aquino III thanked outgoing Philippine National Police (PNP) Director General Ricardo Marquez for his service; lauding him for his outstanding performance during his term in office.

Marquez officially retired after 38 years in public service.

Aquino pointed out how the outgoing PNP chief managed to lead security efforts during the state visit of Pope Francis in January 2015 and heads of states and international delegates during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit which was held on November of that same year.

The President also praised the professionalism that Marquez exhibited as the head of the country’s civilian forces.

[Ric made the most of every opportunity to improve the service of our police. He focused on improving the skills and equipment of our police, as well as looking out for your welfare and your families],” he said in his remarks, which were previously quoted by GMA News.

Aquino, however, admitted that he did not know him personally when he appointed Marquez to the post in July 2015. Nonetheless, the commander-in-chief expressed admiration for Marquez’s performance as PNP chief.

[It is clear: Ric is one with us in ensuring that those who care for our country are not left behind. We also know Ric as the leader who, when spoken to, tells the truth; not just pretending to be sincere or lying just to look good on paper],” he said.

The retirement of Marquez from the police force comes just days before Aquino’s own term as President is set to end on June 30.
