- Sen. Cayetano said President-elect Duterte wants only ‘the best and the brightest’ as his Cabinet members
- He said Sen. Marcos doesn’t fall under those descriptions
- “Would I go against him if I think he’s among the best and the brightest?” – Sen. Cayetano
Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. may have expressed that he is willing to serve as a Cabinet secretary under President-elect Rodrigo Duterte’s administration after the mandatory year-long appointment ban on losing candidates, but Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano expressed his doubt this will happen.
According to an article published by ABS-CBN News, Cayetano, who was Duterte’s running mate last election, said that the incoming president wants only to get ‘the best and the brightest’ as his Cabinet members. However, Cayetano believes that Sen. Marcos does not fall under those descriptions.
He told the reporters on Sunday, June 12: “Would I go against him if I think he’s among the best and the brightest?”
He disclosed that as far as he knows, the incoming president didn’t formally offer Sen. Marcos a Cabinet position.
However, he emphasized President-elect Duterte has the right to choose whoever he wants in his Cabinet.
“I may like some of his appointments, I may not like the other appointments, but I believe in him and support him all the way,” Sen. Cayetano said.
According to an article published by Philippine Daily Inquirer, Sen. Marcos confirmed he met with the incoming president last Friday night, June 10 in Davao City.
The outgoing senator said he came to thank President-elect Duterte for allowing his father, former President Ferdinand Marcos, to be buried at the Libingan ng Mga Bayani.
They also talked about his plan to file an electoral protest and he assured the incoming president that he would not be affected in any way with what he plans to do.
When Sen. Marcos was asked about his possible role in the new administration, he revealed that they only discussed it in a “very general way” because that’s not even the purpose of his visit.
