- Vice Ganda attended the “DU31: One Love, One Nation Thanksgiving Party”
- He was forced to cancel his performance because of heavy rains and power outage
- He described the thanksgiving party as a “celebration of hope”
“It’s Showtime” and “Gandang Gabi Vice” host Vice Ganda was supposed to be among the performers at the “DU31: One Love, One Nation Thanksgiving Party” of President-elect Rodrigo Duterte on Saturday night, June 4 in Davao City’s Crocodile Park, but heavy rains and a power outage forced him to cancel his performance.
Vice Ganda wrote on his Twitter account: “Nakakiyak! Di man nakapagperform dhil sumabog ang kuryente ok lang. Sapat na saking nagkita kita tayo, nagkawayan at nagkamayan.”
[This is tearful. I wasn’t able to perform because of a power outage, but it’s okay. It’s enough for me that we saw one another, waved and shook hands.]
He also tweeted a photo of himself waving at the crowd and captioned his post: “I love you Davao! #Du31”.
Although he did not endorse the incoming president during the campaign period, Vice Ganda was happy that Duterte emerged as the winner among the five presidential candidates.
The two of them had a very good interaction when the tough-talking politician appeared on his Sunday late-night talk show “Gandang Gabi Vice” last year.
The comedian-TV host has been very excited over his performance at the thanksgiving party; describing it as a “celebration of hope”.
ABS-CBN News quoted him as saying: “Nakaka-excite. Kaya masaya ako kasi hindi lang naman ito celebration ng victory ni Mayor Duterte, celebration din ito noong hope ng 16 million na katao na naghahangad ng isang malaking pagbabago sa Pilipinas.’
[It’s very exciting. That’s why I am happy because this is not just a celebration of Mayor Duterte’s victory. This is a celebration of hope of the 16 million people who wanted a big change for the Philippines.]
