- Baste Duterte’s number one idol is his father, President-elect Rodrigo Duterte
- He said that he has always looked up to his father
- He acknowledged that he wouldn’t be who he is now if not for the incoming president
President-elect Rodrigo Duterte’s youngest son, Sebastian, popularly known as ‘Baste’, gave a touching message for his dad during the private thanksgiving party to celebrate the incoming president’s victory. The thanksgiving party was held at the Cebu Country Club on Wednesday night, June 8.
Speaking in a mixture of Tagalog, Visayan and English, the 28-year-old Political Science graduate recalled that when he was younger, his father asked him before who his “idol” was and he answered him: “Michael Jordan.”
“Pa, I want to tell you now, that my answer was wrong. Ikaw gyud akong (You are my) number one idol,” he said.
As seen on the video uploaded by GMA News 24 Oras, Baste added that he has always looked up to his father and acknowledged that he wouldn’t be who he is now if not for the incoming president.
Meanwhile, he also addressed his fellow children of politicians and warned them against greed for money.
He said that when it comes to our responsibility as Filipinos, and we think of money first, we will definitely lose.
Although Baste undoubtedly inherited his father’s appeal to the people, he maintained though that he doesn’t want to follow his father’s political footsteps like his other siblings. His sister Sara Duterte is the mayor-elect of Davao City while his brother Paolo Duterte has been re-elected as vice mayor.
He said in an interview with Ginger Conejero of ABS-CBN News that he doesn’t have any interest in politics and he just helped during the campaign because of his father’s candidacy.
“Public office is not for me,” he said.
However, he emphasized he is willing to help his father especially if the incoming president gives him a task.
