- AlDub tops Yes! Magazine’s 100 Most Beautiful Stars list
- They were selected among the list of celebrities with the most positive impact on people in 2015
- Other stars on the list were Marian Rivera-Dantes, John Lloyd Cruz, Kris Aquino and more
Maine Mendoza, a.k.a. Yaya Dub, and Alden Richards, the phenomenal love team of the noontime variety show ‘Eat Bulaga’, lead the list of Yes! Magazine’s 100 Most Beautiful Stars 2016 — just in time for their 1st year anniversary as a tandem on July 16.
Yes! Magazine unveiled during the launch of its 2016 special issue that the sensational tandem, or AlDub as fans fondly call the duo, will be gracing its cover. AlDub was part of a coveted list made up of celebrities who have had the most positive impact on people in the past year which the magazine had to choose from to topbill their most anticipated issue.
According to an article published by InterAksyon, Editor-in-chief Jo-Ann Maglipon explained in her editor’s note how AlDub was selected. She described the love team as “an accident so welcome to so many who wanted romance and innocence and freshness back.”
She continued: “This kind of chemistry hasn’t hit the scene since Guy & Pip, and that was in the 70s! AlDub seem to have come from nowhere: one from a five-year humdrum career, the other from a start-up social media app. They hadn’t even met, except for the one time she, as a fan, posed with him for a souvenir shot, nor they had known a thing about the other, except for the fact that she’s long had a crush on him from afar.”
Since the birth of this love team, AlDub took Philippine TV and social media by storm. Their benefit concert in October 2015 filled the Philippine Arena and raised P14 million for charity and also broke a Twitter world record for generating over 41 million tweets. They have also proven their box office mettle, as their debut film ‘My Bebe Love’, now ranks among the Top 10 highest grossing Filipino films of all time.
Among the other stars who made it on the list were Marian Rivera-Dantes, KC Concepcion, John Lloyd Cruz, Jake Cuenca, Kris Aquino and more, as per an article published by Manila Bulletin.
