- Baker fulfills promise to give away P5M worth of cake during the term of Pres. Rodrigo Duterte
- As promised by Quim’s Cafe and Bakeshop owner Eliaquim ‘Jack’ Labang, the first 50 slices were given away on July 1
- 50 slices of cake will be given to lucky recipients every 1st and 15th day of the month all throughout Duterte’s term
True to his word, Quim’s Cafe and Bakeshop owner Eliaquim ‘Jack’ Labang will give away more than 7,000 slices of cake throughout the six-year term of President Rodrigo Duterte.
“To celebrate a clean and free elections and in honor of our new leaders, we stay true to our promise of sampling P5M worth of cakes in scheduled batches,” Quim’s Cake and Bakeshop posted on its Facebook page.
In November 2015, Labang expressed his sentiments on the presidential bid of the former Davao City mayor criticizing him for being a “liar” when he officially ran for office after repeatedly saying that he will not.
Labang then posted on Facebook that he would give 50 slices of cake twice a month (specifically on the 1st and 15th day) if the former Davao City mayor wins, an article published by ABS-CBN disclosed.
On July 1, Labang fulfilled his word by giving away the initial batch of cakes he promised to distribute.
“The president has been working … on the drug cases and we’re seeing them slowly crumbling, that’s when I had the idea that he’s really a good president,” Labang was quoted saying as he disclosed that he eventually changed his stand on Duterte after seeing his sincerity to serve the country well.
Labang hopes that the fulfillment of their promise will come hand in hand with Duterte’s realization of his plans for the Philippines.
Those who wish to try the cakes must first like the bakeshop’s Facebook page and register.
For its first distribution on July 1, some street children were among the recipients of Duterte cakes. The first to register was Jeffrey Dela Cruz, a resident of Parañaque.
Quim’s Cafe and Bakeshop is located at Tomas Morato.
The next distribution of another 50 slices of cake will be on July 15 while the rest of the scheduled distribution will fall every 1st and 15th day of the month all throughout Duterte’s term.
