BEIJING, China – A video showing a man eating live mice while drinking a can of beer emerged online and stunned the online community.
Chloe Kerr mentioned in her article for The Sun that the man, who was eating live mice in an alleged bid to get online fame, is now being slammed by an animal rights group.
The sickening video clip shows a man drinking from a can of Budweiser before he grabs a tiny mouse using chopsticks. The man then dips the animal in a dish of soy sauce, then bites the helpless creature in half.
As if trying to enjoy more of the unusual “dish”, he adds a huge squirt of wasabi paste into the soy sauce and took a second mouthful.
The video clip is believed to have been filmed in China, where delicacy of live mice once became popular.
The largest animal rights organization, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), showed concern over the video.
“Eating live mammals is banned almost everywhere in the world except China, but we urge anyone who recognizes this man to contact authorities with concerns about the community’s safety,” said PETA Foundation director Mimi Bekhechi.
“In addition to the suffering caused to these animals, this man’s behavior shows a lack of empathy and a desire to exert power over the helpless, something that often manifests itself in other antisocial ways, including violent crimes against human beings,” she added as quoted by Kelly-Ann Mills in her article for Mirror Co UK.
Bekhechi pointed out that research made in psychology and criminology shows that “sociopaths” start out by abusing animals.
“PETA hopes authorities will quickly identify this man and take strong action,” Bekhechi said.
