- Help and assistance started pouring in for actor Dick Israel after the viral Facebook post
- The Kapampangan actor has been recovering from a fire incident which gutted his house in Caloocan City
- Actresses Vivian Velez and Nadia Montenegro launched a fund raising campaign for Israel on Facebook
MANILA, Philippines – It did not take long before celebrities, and even some online users, started pledging assistance – both in cash and in kind – to distressed character actor Dick Israel whose nearly unrecognizable photo went viral after it was uploaded on social media by a concerned netizen.
Facebook user Sidemiod Francisco Datanam shared a picture of the 57-year-old actor on July 3 while appealing for help from kind-hearted people.
According to Datanam, Dick Israel’s house in Caloocan City was gutted by fire last Saturday and the family virtually saved nothing; not even his wheelchair.
Veteran actresses Vivian Velez and Nadia Montenegro were among the very first to step forward by launching an online fundraising campaign for the ill-stricken Kapampangan actor.
“Dick Israel is in dire need of aid after a fire razed his house in Caloocan City on Saturday. The actor, 57, had already fallen on hard times after he suffered a stroke in 2010 that left half of his body paralyzed and impaired his speech,” Velez wrote on her Facebook account.
She appealed for support and assistance from everyone; saying: “Any support will be highly appreciated by us. Please take a photo of the deposit slip and send it to me or Damay Kamay so we can account for it.”
Nadia Montenegro, for her part, appealed on Instagram for solicitations and pledges for colleague Israel, which she urged to be coursed through Damay Kamay as well.
In an update on Facebook, Damay Kamay said celebrities Nikki Valdez (who donated a wheelchair), Roderick Paulate and Marvin Agustin were among the very first to help, as well as the ABS-CBN network.
Also, the hosts of popular Kapamilya noontime program ‘Showtime’ have chipped in some amount which they will donate to Dick Israel, who is Ricardo Vizcarra Michaca in real life.
On Instagram, former Showtime host Jhong Hilario posted a screenshot of an undisclosed amount of money he collected with the caption: “This is for you Tito Dick Israel! From Showtime family! Sana makatulong sayo (We hope that this will help).”
Israel suffered a stroke in 2010; leaving half of his body paralyzed and his speech affected. Despite this, he managed to appear in a number of television series on ABS-CBN and three more movies afterwards – Pak! Pak! My Dr. Kwak! (2011), Enteng ng Ina mo (2011) and Boy Golden (2013).
According to a PEP article, Israel received financial support back then from showbiz colleagues like Lorna Tolentino, Christopher de Leon, John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo, to name a few.
More celebrities, friends and fans are expected to dole out pledges and financial assistance in the coming days to help the well-loved movie villain Israel recover from the recent tragedy, and hopefully get back on his feet and make a comeback on the big and small screen.
