Award-winning actor John Arcilla said he achieved his long-time dream role because of his character in telefantasya (fantasy television series) Encantadia.
In an article written by Ruel Mendoza of Philippine Entertainment Portal, it was disclosed that it was Arcilla’s long-time dream to be a character in a fantasy series; a dream that has been fulfilled when he was chosen to play the role of Hagorn which was originally portrayed by actor Pen Medina in 2005.
“Ang tagal-tagal ko nang pinapangarap na magkaroon ng isang character sa film or sa TV na fantasy [It had been my long-time dream to be a character in a fantasy film or TV series].I love watching fantasy-themed movies, like The Chronicles of Narnia, The Lord of the Rings and the X-Men series,” Arcilla shared.
In fact, he said, he watches more of fantasy films than serious movies.
“In fact, mas nanonood ako ng mga gano’n kaysa roon sa mga serious movies kasi ginagawa na natin ‘yan parati [In fact, I watch more of those than serious movies because that’s what we always do]…. So I really watch these costumed productions like Superman, Batman,” he stated.
Arcilla has been known for playing heavy roles on stage, in movies, and in television. Some of his unforgettable roles are the ones he played in Ligaya Ang Itawag Mo Sa Akin, Mulanay, Sa North Diversion Road, Compound, Metro Manila, Manila Skies, Halaw and Heneral Luna.
But being Encantadia’s Hagorn, who is one of the antagonists, is a “dream come true,” he said.
“I wanna play Hagorn like a king but with human frailties,” he added.
