Justice Secretary Aguirre tagged religious group in illegal drugs, prostitution inside Bilibid

• Some members of a religious group are sneaking in illegal drugs and prostitutes inside the New Bilibid Prison
• DOJ Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre said the information came from a non-government organization and three prison guards
• The Justice Secretary also disclosed that two former DOJ officials were receiving money from convicted drug lords in exchange for “protection”

A religious group stationed at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) was tagged by Department of Justice Secretary (DOJ) Vitaliano Aguirre as being involved in illegal activities inside the national penitentiary.

As noted by Inquirer, the Justice Secretary said he received information that some members of the religious group preaching to NBP inmates are channels of not only illegal drugs, but also of prostitution.

“I received information that some religious personnel preaching inside Bilibid are conduits of illegal drugs and prostitution,” Aguirre said.

Religious activities inside the penitentiary were ordered temporarily stopped by Aguirre after receiving the information from a non-government organization and three prison guards.

Aguirre also disclosed that two former DOJ officials were receiving money from convicted drug lords in exchange for “protection.” During a media briefing on Friday, July 29, the Justice Secretary said he is mulling to create a fact-finding group to probe the ex-DOJ personnel.

The DOJ has launched its “OPLAN Digmaang Droga” as part of the Duterte Administration’s war on illegal drugs. Aguirre said the DOJ conducts Digmaang Droga not only in NBP, but also in other places.
