- Twitter will launch a special emoji to celebrate AlDub’s first anniversary
- A customized heart emoji will appear alongside the hashtag #AlDub1stAnniversary
- This is the first customized Twitter emoji made for a TV show in Southeast Asia
Social media company Twitter will be launching a special emoji to mark the first anniversary of the phenomenal viral sensation AlDub.
AlDub, the love team of actor Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza who is more popularly known as “Yaya Dub,” is celebrating their first year together as a love team this July 16.
By 12 noon, a special emoji showing two hands forming a heart will appear alongside the hashtag #AlDub1stAnniversary.
According to GMA News, this is the first time Twitter designed a customized emoji for a TV program in Southeast Asia.
The move could be seen as a recognition of the viral phenomenon after AlDub broke the internet and became one of the most trending topic worldwide.
The hashtag #AlDubEBTamangPanahon launched on October 24 reached 41 million tweets in just 24 hours; setting the record for the most number of tweets within a one-day period worldwide.
The AlDub love team began on July 15, 2015 when Mendoza broke character as Yaya Dub when she was seen acting giddy looking at Richards via split screen during one episode of the lunchtime variety program Eat Bulaga.
Since then, a special segment called Kalyeserye was created to be centered around the budding romance between Richards and Mendoza.
Their onscreen chemistry became a hit not only among television viewers but also in social media as the audience followed their ‘love story’.
It has also helped launched the career of Mendoza and made both her and Richards one of the most sought after celebrity endorsers in the Philippines.
The love team also proved as a blessing for Eat Bulaga, whose official Twitter account has now reached 2.72 million followers or a 200 percent increase from their previous 880,000 followers before AlDub became a trend on social media.
