  • Hsu sought for peace between the two countries

The Twitter account of Taiwanese actress Barbie Zhu has been suspended after she called for peace between Philippines and China regarding the recent ruling on the disputed territory.

ABS-CBN said in its story published late evening on July 13 that Hsu’s account was suspended after she tweeted: “Let there be peace between China and the Philippines. Mahal kita!”

Her tweet garnered as much as 2,600 retweets and 3,300 likes.

Hsu was popular for her role as Shan Cai in the hit Asian series “Meteor Garden”. The Taiwanese drama debuted in the Philippines via ABS-CBN in 2003. Its successful run in the country marked the first wave of Asian dramas the Filipino audience loved and subscribed to.

An island state, Taiwan is known as the Republic of China and is also being claimed by mainland China (People’s Republic of China).

Aside from Hsu, other Chinese celebrities outside China aired their reactions through social media.

Members of KPop bands Victoria Song (f(X)), Fei and Jia (miss A) and Cao Lu (FIESTAR) posted an Instagram photo that came with the hashtag that means “China cannot become any smaller,” said the same ABS-CBN story.

The Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) in The Hague, Netherlands released its decision favoring the Philippines against China over the contested waters.

According to the PCA, there was no legal basis on China’s claim to its “historic rights” of the reclaimed territory. China is claiming sovereignty of the West Philippine Sea based on its so-called “9-dash line”. The line is a demarcation drawn on a map of China that dates back to the 1940s.

China earlier called the ruling a “farce” and stressed that they will not honor it.

  1. Please correct the information you stated on your article. It is very misleading. Zhang Yixing also known as LAY of exo didn’t post a picture on instagram or on weibo (a chinese social media platform) about this issue. Neither did he post using the hashtag that Chinese netizens have been using. He only changed his profile picture.

  2. Hi kickerdaily! Twitter page of Barbie Hsu was suspended because it’s not her. It’s a fake account using her identity and photos. Please check the microblogging account of Barbie for the confirmation of the issue. Attached photo is the weibo update of Barbie yesterday regarding to that issue.
