Not only PNoy: NSC insider says Gloria also snubbed Aquino when he said hi to her

  • Source claimed the video showing PNoy seemingly snubbing Arroyo not complete
  • He said Arroyo also ignored PNoy when he said hi to her
  • He also defended PNoy, said protocol officer told him to go directly to Duterte’s left

MANILA, Philippines – A case of tit-for-tat snubbing, or just overthinking?

According to an insider who attended the National Security Council (NSC) meeting on Wednesday, July 27, the video showing former president Benigno Aquino III seemingly snubbing his predecessor Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo does not tell the complete story.

The insider, an attendee of the meeting, claimed it was Arroyo who snubbed Aquino once they were all complete inside the meeting room.

“When they were all inside the room, Aquino actually said, ‘Hi, Ma’am’ to Arroyo. But she ignored him,” the insider told the Philippine Daily Inquirer.

The source also defended Aquino’s seeming snub of Arroyo; saying he was just following the instructions of the protocol officer who told him to go straight to the left of incumbent President Rodrigo Duterte.

The original video shows Aquino briefly shaking hands with Duterte and his late mother’s successor former president Fidel V. Ramos who was standing beside the latter. Although Arroyo can be seen smiling at him, she also does not extend her hand.

The angle of the video also makes it unclear whether Aquino smiled back at his former economics professor.

Arroyo, who was placed in hospital arrest since 2012, was recently freed after the Supreme Court found the evidence against her alleged misuse of Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) weak.

Wednesday’s unprecedented meeting involved a discussion of national security matters, including the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA)’s ruling on the West Philippine Sea.

Majority of the public hailed the meeting and hoped it would lead to a more unified country.
