- Dela Rosa said the meeting was intimate and personal
- He said the president may reveal more names from his list
3 of the 5 generals of the Philippine National Police (PNP), who were named by President Rodrigo Duterte for their alleged involvement in illegal drugs syndicate, faced PNP chief Director General Ronald ‘Bato’ Dela Rosa on Wednesday, June 6.
The 5 accused generals— Police Director Joel Pagdilao, Chief Supt. Edgardo Tinio, Chief Supt. Bernardo Diaz, retired Deputy Director General Marcelo Garbo and retired Chief Supt. Vicente Loot— were Dela Rosa’s upperclassmen by four years at the Philippine Military Academy, as per an article published by Inquirer.
On Wednesday morning, Pagdilao, Tinio and Diaz met with Dela Rosa in his office at the PNP headquarters in Camp Crame, Quezon City. Dela Rosa, getting emotional about the meeting, said it was intimate and he wanted to cry with them.
“Our meeting was purely intimate and personal. I cannot discuss it in public. But my advice to them is face the music,” Dela Rosa said in a press conference after the meeting.
The 3 officers had earlier been ordered relief, and will now face investigation by the National Police Commission (Napolcom).
He said the officers assured him that they will cooperate with Napolcom’s investigation.
Dela Rosa said he assured the police officials that they will be accorded an impartial investigation.
“I gave them the assurance na kahit na upperclass ko sila [that even if they are my upperclassmen], I am their father right now. As the father, I have to look for their welfare,” he said.
The PNP chief also shared that President Duterte may reveal more names of police officials linked to illegal drugs trade, as per an article published by Philstar.
“The President has more in his list. I don’t want to preempt him from divulging that additional info. We’ll just have to wait and see. My observation is that he has more to reveal,” he added.
