- VP Leni Robredo says she is still not expecting a Cabinet appointment by Pres. Rodrigo Duterte
- Duterte had earlier cited political differences as to his decision not to give Robredo a Cabinet post
- Robredo says, however, she is ready to take on her role as VP even without a Cabinet appointment
Vice President Leni Robredo says she is not expecting President Rodrigo Duterte to give her any Cabinet post even after their first meeting during the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) turnover ceremony.
Duterte had earlier insisted on not making Robredo part of his official “family” citing their political differences.
Robredo, says however, that she is “prepared” to take on her role as the second highest official of the country even without a Cabinet portfolio, saying that a Presidential appointment would have been “bonus” for her.
“Ako naman, nakakasa na na hindi ako bibigyan. Handa na rin naman ako na wala. Kaya iyong sa akin, bonus na lang ‘yun. Kung wala, ready na din tayo. [For me, I am not expecting to be given a Cabinet post. I am prepared even without one. So for me, it is just a bonus. If there is none, we are already ready],” she told the Inquirer.
The Vice President plans to set up satellite offices, in addition to her main office at the Quezon City Executive House.
Robredo says her office will be requesting additional budget for the satellite offices, which has not been included in the National Budget yet. However, she says that her team would also find ways to fund her projects without burdening government coffers.
“Pero mahahanapan naman iyan ng paraan. Ayoko naman kasing hintayin pa na magkaroon ng budget, na maraming umaasa sa tulong natin. [But we will find ways. I don’t want to just wait until we have a budget since many are hoping for our help],” she said.
After their chance encounter at the AFP ceremony, Robredo says she has been given word by Duterte about a formal meeting in Malacañang “anytime.”
“Very cordial iyong meeting. Nagpaalam ako sa kaniya kung pwede ako magpaset ng scheduling, or courtesy visit. Sabi naman niya, anytime. [The meeting was very cordial. I asked permission if I can set scheduling or courtesy visit. He said, anytime],” Robredo told ABS-CBN News.
