- The cop fired two shots inside the headquarters
- SWAT members were able to subdue and arrest the rampaging cop
The Manila Police District (MPD) headquarters in United Nations Avenue in Ermita, Manila was locked down after a rookie cop went berserk inside the facility.
The rookie cop, Police Officer 1 (PO1) Vincent Paul B. Solares, whose police station assignment has yet to be determined, went on a rampage inside the MPD headquarters at around 3:15 p.m. Sunday, July 3, for still unknown reasons.
A video shared by the Inquirer showed PO1 Solares destroying what appeared to be photo frames at the second floor of the police headquarters. The cop was also shown pulling out his gun. He allegedly threatened to shoot colleagues who tried to arrest him.
The Inquirer said Solares fired two successive shots inside the headquarters, and fortunately, no one was hit. About 20 minutes later, members of the Special Weapons and Tactics or SWAT were able to subdue the rampaging cop.
According to the Manila Bulletin, prior to the incident, there were reports that the same cop went to Police Station 4 where he also started a commotion by firing his gun and punching policemen at the police station.
Solares is now detained at the General Assignment Investigation Section of MPD headquarters. He is facing several charges including alarm and scandal, and indiscriminate firing.
Probers are trying to determine the rookie cop’s motive. They are looking into the possibility that the police officer was high on drugs.
The MPD’s new district director, Senior Supt. Joel Coronel, ordered a drug test on Solares.
