MANILA, Philippines – Sen. Nancy Binay’s outfit for President Rodrigo Duterte’s first ever State of the Nation Address on Monday, July 25 once again caught the attention of social media users.
According to an article published by Philippine Entertainment Portal (PEP), the lady lawmaker’s stylish black gown made by Randy Ortiz became a subject of viral memes.
Several netizens compared Sen. Binay’s gown to a superhero costume, a fish, among others, and her clutch bag was compared to a leche flan.
Sen. Binay is somehow used to being a subject of memes every time she attends a SONA.
In fact, in one of her past interviews, she expressed that she was expecting her bashers to comment negatively on the outfit she will wear in then President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III’s SONA last July 27, 2015.
In an interview with ABS-CBN’s “TV Patrol” aired on July 20, 2015, the lady senator said: “Feeling ko, whether or not maganda yung suot ko, yung mga bashers ko will still bash me.”
[Whether I wear a beautiful gown or not, I feel that my bashers will still bash me.]
She wore a Randy Ortiz deep blue Filipiniana style gown, which was compared by netizens to a chocolate, Clash of Clan’s Pekka, X-Men’s Mystique and other comical characters.
In 2014, her white and green gown, featuring a bubble skirt in the style of the traditional Korean costume, also inspired a lot of memes. Instead of getting offended, Sen. Binay even praised her bashers for being creative and admitted that the Princess Fiona meme became her favorite.
Later on, she admitted that she made a mistake towards her designer because she forgot to pull a tie and somehow ended up ruining the intended look of her gown.
