Will Angel Locsin reprise her role as Darna?
This seems to be the question that puzzles the fans of the actress after she shared on Instagram on Thursday, July 28, a picture of herself doing the ‘Darna’ pose in a gym.
She captioned her post: “Naks. #yabangpose”
Last year, Locsin announced she had decided not to reprise her role as Darna in the planned movie adaptation of Mars Ravelo’s Filipino comics heroine because of the disc bulge in her spine.
She underwent medical procedures in Singapore late last year and early this year to treat her medical condition.
Now that the actress is better there are still a lot of people who are hoping that Locsin can reprise the role which she portrayed more than a decade ago when she was still under GMA Network.
Although a lot of names of actresses who can potentially replace Locsin as Darna have been mentioned, acclaimed director Erik Matti, who will direct the upcoming “Darna” movie, admitted it is hard to replace Locsin.
He disclosed in an interview with Philippine Entertainment Portal that Locsin already knows what’s inside Darna’s heart.
He said: “Mahirap kasi, alam na ni Angel ang nilalaman ng puso ni Darna, e. Now, by starting anew again, whoever she is, kung sino man ang mapili, we need to have the character imbibed sa tao na ‘yun – the character of Darna and Narda, dalawa ‘yun, e. And for such a big movie, ang bigat na burden ‘yun.”
[It will be quite hard because Angel already knows what’s inside Darna’s heart. Now, by starting anew again, whoever she is, whoever will be chosen, we need to have the character imbibed to that person – the characters of Darna and Narda. And for such a big movie, it’s going to be a heavy burden.]
He also revealed that when he learned that the actress dropped out from the film, he thought the film won’t push forward anymore,
He added that’s the reason why ABS-CBN, particularly Star Cinema, immediately decided to make the teaser of the film, which was released ahead of screenings of 2015 Metro Manila Film Festival entries, “Beauty and the Bestie” and “All You Need Is Pag-Ibig”, so that everyone will be assured that they will still be making the film despite Locsin’s decision.
