COPENHAGEN, Denmark – A study made a shocking claim that males who drink too much cola will have decreased sperm count and also become prone to erectile dysfunction.
Abigail O’Leary mentioned in her article for the Mirror Co UK that researchers found out that drinking one liter of cola a day could reduce the sperm count by a huge 30% and eventually lead to erectile dysfunction.
The study was done by researchers at the Copenhagen University Hospital, who found out that men who admitted that they are addicted to cola have less effective sperms as compared to those avoiding the drink.
The researchers examined the sperm count of 2,554 men and found out that those cola addicts have an average sperm count of 35 million per milliliter as compared to those who drink less cola with 56 million per milliliter.
Although a sperm count of 35 million is still within the normal range, men who have this count are at more risk of eventually becoming infertile, as per the study.
An article by Sara Kamouni for The Sun said that the researchers found no link between caffeine levels in cola to the lower sperm count in men; therefore suggesting that the culprit for the low count is another ingredient.
Scientists at the Nicolaus Copernicus University and the Professor Franciszek Lukaszczyk Memorial Hospital in Bydgoszcz in Poland first discovered that drinking too much cola was also found to have links to men suffering from erectile dysfunction.
Scientists explained that certain ingredients in the cola contributed on the problem of starting or maintaining an erection.
The study said the sweetener in the drinks could damage arteries in the penis, then possibly preventing blood flowing freely through the muscle.
