- VP Robredo denied the claim of a video that circulated online that she had a secret meeting with Comelec chair Andres Bautista
- The video claimed that Robredo and Bautista secretly met hours after the Supreme Court ordered Robredo to reply to the electoral protest filed by Bongbong Marcos
- Robredo said she and her daughters attended a dinner party
Vice President Leni Robredo said there was no “secret meeting” that transpired between her and Commission on Election (Comelec) Chairman Andres Bautista as claimed in a video posted by Dayaang Matuwid on its Facebook page.
The opening message on the video said that on July 12, 2016, the Supreme Court ordered the vice president to reply to the electoral protest filed by Bongbong Marcos and that barely 8 hours later, Robredo and fellow respondent Commission on Election Chairman Andres Bautista allegedly held a secret meeting at the Urdaneta Apartments in Makati City.
The video claimed to show the actual footage of the alleged “secret meeting” between the vice president and the Comelec chairman; supposedly inside the unit owned by socialite Baby Cruz at the 10th floor of the Urdaneta Apartments.
However, the video did not show the actual footage of the meeting, but it showed VP Robredo arriving at the venue and then leaving the place at 10:26 p.m. followed by Bautista four minutes later.
Robredo called the video “very malicious.”
“Siguro mas maigi, kung may secret meeting, pinakita niya mismo na nag-usap kami, kasi wala namang ganoon. Walang ganoong secret meeting,” GMA News Online quoted her as saying.
[If there was a secret meeting, it (video) should have shown us talking with each other. But there was no such meeting. The was no secret meeting]
Robredo said she and her daughters attended a dinner party with several other guests, including Bautista, Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales and U.S. Ambassador to the Philippines Philip Goldberg.
Bautista also denied having a secret meeting with the vice president.
“It was a social event. There were more than 30 people who were there. No secret meeting. In fact, I just said hello to VP, we didn’t talk. Kalokohan ‘yan,” he said.
