After 75 years since her comic book debut, the great superheroine Wonder Woman will finally get her first solo theatrical release in the upcoming movie bearing her name, Wonder Woman.
Starring Israeli actress and model Gal Gadot, the film tells the origins of the immortal demigoddess. This will also be the fourth installment of the DC Extended Universe, after Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice which saw the debut of Gadot’s Wonder Woman character and Suicide Squad.
Although the movie will not be released until 2017, Wonder Woman has already set social media abuzz since its new trailer premiered during the San Diego Comic-Con and became the most discussed topic on Twitter.
In the trailer, Diana Prince, the princess of the all-female Amazon warriors, left her home island to defend the world from a looming world war and become the superhero she has since been known to be.
Prior to the trailer release, Gadot shared a poster of the new movie on her Twitter account, which immediately went viral. The poster showed a profile of the superhero above the words, “Power. Grace. Wisdom. Wonder.”
“A dream come true! Happy to finally share this with you all,” she wrote.
Fans and movie critics are looking forward to how the first modern superhero movie featured solely on a female protagonist would play out in the box office.
The Wonder Woman film will also serve as the transition towards the movie Justice League, set for a premiere on the same year.
Wonder Woman, directed by Patty Jenkins, is scheduled for a release on June 2, 2017.
