50 party mates won’t vote for Trump as “he would be the most reckless president in U.S. history” if elected

• The open letter signatories said none of them will vote for Trump
• A Republican senator from Maine said Trump is unworthy of the highest elective office in America

Fifty Republican security experts said their party’s presidential nominee, business tycoon Donald Trump, would be the most reckless president in American history if elected.

In an open letter, the 50 senior party members who have worked in national security or foreign policy positions in Republican administrations from Richard Nixon to George W. Bush, said they were convinced Trump would be a dangerous president and would put at risk the United States’ national security and well-being.

They said Trump lacks the “character, values and experience to be president; adding “he appears to lack basic knowledge about and belief in the US Constitution, US laws, and US institutions, including religious tolerance, freedom of the press, and an independent judiciary.”

“None of us will vote for Donald Trump,” the signatories stated in the letter.

Another lifelong member of the Republican party, Senator Susan Collins from Maine, also said in her opinion piece for a newspaper that Trump is “unworthy” of America’s highest elective office and will not receive her support.

According to NY Times, the letter underscores the continuing rupture in the Republican Party, but particularly within its national security establishment.

Mr. Trump lashed back at the 50 letter signatories; calling them the failed “Washington elite” who wants to cling to power. Trump said they were attacking him because he had not made them a part of his campaign.
