- Multi-awarded actor-producer Robert De Niro called Donald Trump “totally nuts”
- The acclaimed actor said Trump should not be running for the U.S. presidency
- He said media has given Trump too much attention, but is starting to hold him accountable for his outlandish remarks
Billionaire businessman and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump should not be running for the United States presidency because he is “totally nuts,” according to multi-awarded actor-producer Robert De Niro.
Fox News said De Niro made the comment during his speech at the Sarajevo Film Festival in Bosnia and Herzegovina where he presented the digital version of the 1976 psychological thriller “Taxi Driver” which he starred in, to mark its 40th anniversary. The film was cited by film critics and audiences alike as one of the greatest films of all time.
“I don’t know, it’s crazy that people like Donald Trump …, he shouldn’t even be where he is, so God help us. What he’s been saying is really totally crazy, ridiculous … he is totally nuts,” De Niro said to wide applause in the Sarajevo National Theater.
The actor said the media has given Trump too much attention, but is starting to hold him truly accountable for some of the outlandish comments he’s made. Trump said early this week that President Barack Obama is the founder of ISIS and that the forthcoming elections will be rigged in favor of Hillary Clinton.
“But I think now they are really starting to push back, the media … finally they are starting to say: Come on, Donald, this is ridiculous, this is nuts, this is insane,” De Niro said.
