MANILA, Philippines – Contrary to the belief of some people, comedian Arnell Ignacio emphasized that he did not get his position as AVP for Community Relation and Services Department of the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) by simply being close to President Rodrigo Duterte.
In an interview with Karen Davila on ANC’s Headstart, Ignacio revealed that he actually applied for the post.
ABS-CBN News quoted him as saying: “I printed about ten to fifteen resume, and when I met Ma’am Andrea [Domingo], she was asking for my number, I gave her my resume; and, of course, I submitted one din sa (as well in) Davao.”
He added that he even reminded Domingo not to lose his resume.
Despite being one of the loyal and active celebrity supporters of President Duterte during the campaign period, Ignacio said that he did not meet the president up close until the miting de avance.
He revealed that although he wasn’t able to get a ticket for the miting the avance, the president’s common-law wife, Honeylet Avanceña, saw him and called him to come up on stage.
Ignacio added that the president approached him and he forgot all about the speech he prepared when Pres. Duterte told him with conviction: “Do not worry, we will fix this country.”
In an interview with hPhilippine Entertainment Portal (PEP) last July, he said that he is happy because, through his new position, it would be very easy for him to help those who are in need.
“Hindi ako mahihirapan sa mga gustong lumapit sa akin para matulungan, lalo na sa pagpapagamot,” he said.
[I won’t have a hard time with all those who will come to me for help, especially when it comes to healthcare needs.]
