- PNP chief told Leyte mayor’s son to give in peacefully or be shot on sight
- Mayor admitted son is involved with drug lord Peter Co
- He also claimed he does not know his son’s whereabouts anymore
MANILA, Philippines – Surrender or die.
A few hours after Albuera Mayor Rolando Espinosa Sr. gave himself up, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa also told his son Kerwin to give up or die.
“Kung nakikinig ngayon si Kerwin, your father has already surrendered. You should follow your father,” the Philippine Daily Inquirer quoted him as saying. “Kapag hindi ka su-surrender, mapapatay ka talaga. Mapapatay ka talaga kung hindi ka su-surrender.”
[If Kerwin is listening, your father has already surrendered. You should follow your father. If you don’t surrender, you will really die.]
Dela Rosa confirmed that the “shoot-on-sight” order is still on as police are presuming the younger Espinosa to be armed and dangerous.
“The order to shoot on site is still active hanggang hindi siya mag-surrender [until he doesn’t surrender],” he said.
The PNP chief also said he was told by the older Espinosa that Kerwin was indeed involved in illegal drugs; being associated with convicted drug lord Peter Co. He added that Kerwin has had plastic surgery and cannot be contacted anymore since May 7.
“Ang kanya naman is ina-admit ‘yung kanyang anak [He admits that his son] is really into drug dealing. Hindi niya ma-control ‘yung kanyang anak [He can’t control his son] that’s per his statement,” he said.
As for the mayor, Dela Rosa said they cannot technically arrest him since there was no warrant for his arrest. However, they will turn him over to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) for further investigation.
For his part, Espinosa vowed to cooperate with the ongoing investigation.
“Patayin ako ni General Dela Rosa pag nag-backout ako [General Dela Rosa will kill me if I back out],” he said.
