BEIJING, China – Chinese state media accused that the viral video of Omran Daqneesh, the 5-year-old Syrian boy who was seen sitting dazed and bloodied, have been staged as part of a Western “propaganda war”.
China is a known supporter of Bashar al-Assad’s Syrian government.
An article published by Independent said that China’s official broadcaster China Central Television (CCTV), showed the haunting footage with the subtitle “Posed picture? Exaggeration? The video is suspected of being a fake”.
A voice-over in the report said: “Critics have suggested that (the video) is part of a propaganda war, aimed at creating a ‘humanitarian’ excuse for Western countries to become involved in Syria. The workers did not make rapid rescue efforts, and instead quickly set up a camera.”
Bangkok Post mentioned in an article that CCTV also alleged that the Syrian Civil Defense, who took the pictures, is actually functioning under an organization called “Crisis Rescue”, whose founder and leading official is a UK military official.
The viral video was originally posted by the Aleppo Media Center, wherein Omran was seen being carried by a civil defense worker to the ambulance and unlike a child’s usual reaction, he was not crying during the rescue. He just sat there expressionless.
Several articles mentioned that the nurse who treated the boy said that Omran didn’t even cry even as he was being treated.
The spokesman of the Aleppo Media Center said that the child was in extreme shock. He didn’t say anything except ask for his parents and when he saw them, that’s when he started crying.
Omran’s story is said to be the story of every defenseless people, including children, in Syria. He has become the face of the Syrian war.
