- Senator JV Ejercito said Duterte is set to bare newest narco-list of government officials
- He said list includes ex-congressmen, mayors and councilors from Manila and Mindanao
- Duterte told him drug trade proliferates because of corrupt officials
MANILA, Philippines – Coming soon: Digong’s newest narco-list.
According to Sen. JV Ejercito, President Rodrigo Duterte is set to reveal his newest narco-list which he said contains the names of several mayors, councilors and former congressmen.
Ejercito, who met Duterte in Malacañang together with fellow senators Alan Peter Cayetano, Richard Gordon, Ralph Recto, Cynthia Villar, Joel Villanueva, and Juan Miguel Zubiri, said the president showed them a folder which contained the list of the officials who are allegedly drug protectors.
The senator said he was shocked as he was familiar with some of the names Duterte read out loud during his meeting with them.
““Nakakasiguro ako former congressmen, kakatapos lang ng termino mga fresh pa ito. Medyo nagulat din ako. I have to be honest with you, kasi nakilala ko din ang mga ‘yun. Medyo na-shock din ako kasi nakasama ko ‘yung mga ‘yun,” he told the Philippine Star.
[I’m sure they are former congressmen, they just finished their terms and are fresh from their office. I was kind of shocked. I have to be honest with you, because I know them. I was kind of shocked because I was with them in Congress.]
The other officials, Ejercito said, were mostly mayors and councilors from Mindanao and Metro Manila.
The senator added that Duterte, brandishing the list, told him and his colleagues the existence of corrupt officials is the reason why the illegal drug trade is so hard to root out in the country.
“Sabi niya, ‘Ito ang rason bakit ganito kalala ang problema sa droga, dahil nga may proteksyon.’ Siguro nga may umaalalay,” he said.
[He said, ‘This is the reason why the drug problem is so deep, because of the protection.’ Maybe there really are coddlers.]
