- Palace dared senator’s former driver and rumored lover to come out and clear his name
- House also urging driver to show up in probe on proliferation of drugs in Bilibid
- De Lima invited to attend as a resource person
MANILA, Philippines – Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar is urging Sen. Leila de Lima’s former driver and rumored lover Ronnie Palisoc Dayan to show up and clear his alleged links to the illegal drug trade in New Bilbids Prison (NBP).
Andanar also defended President Rodrigo Duterte’s decision to expose Dayan, saying his relationship with De Lima was a vital cog in the illegal goings-on in Bilibid.
“The president was merely stating the facts and laying down the legal bases of his argument by saying na hindi naman kaya ng isang driver na pumunta ng Bilibid prison at sabihin na ‘ito ang gawin ninyo at bigyan ako ng pera’ kung walang koneksyon sa mas makapangyarihang tao [that a driver cannot go to Bilibid prison and tell inmates to do this and give him money without connection from someone powerful],” he told ABS-CBN.
For its part, the House of Representatives has invited Dayan to be a star witness in its planned probe on the proliferation of illegal drugs in Bilbid when De Lima was still the Justice Secretary.
“The probe is for the sake of transparency and accountability. If it involved the driver, Congress must send an invitation for him to air his side,” Deputy Speaker Karlo Nograles said.
Batangas Rep. Raneo Abu also invited De Lima to attend so she can air her side on the alleged illegal activities in the national penitentiary.
“If I were Senator De Lima, I will come here in the House of Representatives voluntarily to air my side,” he said.
