- Manny Pacquiao will face Jessie Vargas on November 5
- Dubai and Las Vegas are the leading choices to host Pacquiao’s comeback match
- Bob Arum and Michael Koncz will meet Pacquiao in the Philippines to pick a site
Manny Pacquiao will make his boxing comeback on November 5 and will face World Boxing Organization welterweight champion Jessie Vargas.
Pacquiao’s promoter, Top Rank founder and CEO Bob Arum and his longtime adviser, Michael Koncz, will be arriving in the Philippines next week to discuss the details of Pacquiao’s match against Vargas.
According to an article written by Lance Pugmire for Los Angeles Times, Koncz said that the main purpose of their meeting with Pacquiao is to pick a site for the match.
Previously, it was reported that Pacquiao’s comeback match will be held at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
However, Arum revealed recently that he also talked to a group from Dubai, United Arab Emirates, that also wants to host the match.
Last year, when the venue for Pacquiao’s match against Bradley wasn’t decided yet, the former expressed that he’d love to fight in Dubai.
An article by Allaam Ousman for Emirates 24/7 quoted him as saying: “I’d love to fight in Dubai.”
Pacquiao went to Dubai with his Mahindra Enforcers PBA squad in November last year and was surprised that even the locals know him. He’s really thankful for the warm welcome he received.
“I feel so happy to be here in Dubai. This is my first time here. Thank you for the warm welcome, especially to the Filipino people here in Dubai… thank you,” he said.
At that time, Dubai sports officials believe it is ideal to hold Pacquiao’s last fight there because of the large Filipino expatriate population and his popularity even to Arab boxing fans.
