Hit-and-run victims’ families appeal to Pres. Duterte: “Help Us”

  • Relatives of the victims have appealed to President Rodrigo Duterte to help them in giving justice to their loved ones
  • Marinel Ravina and fellow call center agents in critical condition, one of the victims have died
  • Baldwin Cham Velasco was charged with reckless imprudence resulting to homicide and multiple injuries

Angered by the hit-and-run incident that put Marinel Ravina and fellow call center agents in critical condition, relatives of the victims have appealed to President Rodrigo Duterte to help them in giving justice to their loved ones.

“I hope the President can help us in our finances and at the same time get justice for our loved ones,” the mother of 24-year-old Marinel said as she cried foul over the incident perpetuated by a certain Baldwin Cham Velasco, who later surrendered to police after a witness gave authorities the SUV’s plate number.

Sahara, a sister of the victim who died on the spot, called on Velasco to face them and be accountable of the crime.

“We will not accept any settlement. We want justice. They can no longer bring back to life my brother,” the enraged  Sahara told the Inquirer.

Marinel’s mother, Leonila, on the other hand, has denied reports that Velasco has offered them P3 million to settle the case.

Marinel’s family are at a loss over her hospitalization expenses which had already ballooned to P2 million since she was admitted to the hospital on July 31. Hence, Leonila is seeking financial assistance from Pres. Duterte; stating in her letter to the president her daughter’s sensitive medical condition.

Apparently, Marinel lost her third child because of the incident and remains confined at the Medical City’s intensive care unit.

Pasig Police Senior Superintendent Orlando Yebra Jr. said Velasco was charged with reckless imprudence resulting to homicide and multiple injuries, and abandonment of the victims.

The incident happened when the victims — Ravina, Jake Sentinillas, Juan Carlo Villanueva and Micah Uy – were crossing the pedestrian lane on Dona Julia Vargas avenue in Pasig City at 2:50am, on their way home from work when they were hit by a Subaru.

The sports utility vehicle, after hitting the victims, dragged Sentinillas’ body several meters from the pedestrian lane. He was declared dead on arrival at a hospital. Villanueva and Uy were seriously injured.

The culprit of the hit-and-run surrendered later after a witness reported to police authorities the vehicle’s plate number.

Public Attorney’s Office lawyers handle the case of the hit-and-run victims.
