- Dimple Ortega, now a model, is proud of being once a balut vendor
- Mother tells Dimple was being teased before, code-named balut
A lady, who’s now a freelance model, was once a balut vendor — and she is proud of it.
Nineteen-year-old Dimple Ortega, who appeared as a contestant in the “Willie of Fortune” segment of Wowowin on Wednesday confidently shared her story – that she was once a balut seller when she was 16-17 years old at Villarosa, San Pedro, Laguna before being a beauty queen/model.
She admitted that because people find her beautiful, her goods were usually bought wholesale.
Willie Revillamae, the host, asked her to give a sample.
The lady, proud of her past, did not hesitate to grant Willie’s request and proved that she’s telling the truth as she shouted “Balut, balut, penoy, chicharon.”
The audience clapped, and her mother did as well.
Dimple then introduced her mother; “the most beautiful and very supportive mother,” she described her mom.
Her mother Che narrated the experiences of her child as a balut vendor – teased and even nicknamed as “balut”.
But she advised, “‘Wag kang umiyak kasi ang pagtitinda ng balut ay isang marangal na trabaho at ipagmalaki mo ‘yon kasi nakatutulong ka sa pamilya mo.”
[Do not cry because selling balut is a noble job and be proud of it because you are helping your family.]
Che thanked her child for being a good daughter, for the help and for the love — given to her and her siblings.
“‘Wag kang huminto sa pangarap mo. Alam kong matutupad mo ‘yan. Kapit ka lang, anak, at sa bawat gagawin mo, tandaan mo lagi kaming nandito nakasuporta kami ng papa mo, ng mga kapatid mo. Mahal na mahal ka namin,” was the mother’s message on the program.
[Do not stop dreaming. I know you can fulfill it. Hold on, my child, and in everything you do, always remember we are here, we support you, your dad, your brothers/sisters. We love you so much.]
“Ma, salamat po sa lahat ng suporta mo. Kahit na sobrang tigas kung minsan ng ulo ko, nandiyan pa rin kayo para suportahan ako. Maraming-maraming salamat po. At mahal na mahal din po kita,” she replied.
[Mom, thank you for all the support. Despite my hardheadedness at times, you are still there to support me. Thank you very much. And I love you so much, too.]
