- Bar owners expressed willingness to help in the government’s war on drugs
The Philippine National Police (PNP) will soon deploy intelligence teams composed of at least three operatives to upscale nightclubs in Makati City and Bonifacio Global City (BGC) in Taguig.
The intel cops will conduct surveillance operations in bars, where party drugs like ecstasy are allegedly being sold, as part of the PNP’s efforts to curb the spread and use of illegal drugs.
National Capital Region Police Office head Chief Supt. Oscar Albayalde said Monday, August 15, he had initial discussions with bar owners in BGC and Makati, who expressed their willingness to meet with PNP Chief Director General Ronald De la Rosa and to help in the government’s campaign against the illegal drugs trade.
“Mayroon na tayong initial na usapin sa kanila at sabi nila willing silang harapin si PNP chief at tumulong sa kampanya against illegal drugs. In fact, they are even willing to sign a Memorandum of Agreement with the PNP for the anti-illegal drugs campaign,” the Inquirer quoted Abayde as saying.

The bar owners, according to Abayalde, want to correct public perceptions that illegal drugs are being peddled in their place; adding they were very cooperative when he talked to them.
The deployment of intelligence teams will commence once the bar owners are done meeting with the PNP Chief.
