MANILA, Philippines – TV host-actress Mariel Rodriguez announced that she has gone on leave from work for the sake of her baby.

According to an article published by ABS-CBN News, Mariel extended her gratitude to the Kapamilya Network in an interview aired on “Tonight with Boy Abunda”.

She said: “I’ll always be grateful to my ‘It’s Showtime’ family, to my ‘PBB’ family, to ABS-CBN: Thank you so much. You don’t know how much it means to me na naiintindihan nila (that they understand). I’m fighting for my baby’s life so talagang karee-rin ko muna ito (I’ll be doing all that I can do).”

Mariel suffered two miscarriages last year.

Her first miscarriage was in March last year when she was eight weeks and three days pregnant. She suffered another miscarriage in August wherein she lost her triplet.

For her third pregnancy, she’s is undergoing heparin treatment to increase her chances of giving birth.

Last June, she hinted that she might be taking a break from “It’s Showtime” since she needed to rest after she rushed herself to the hospital because she feared something might be wrong with her baby when she felt abdominal pain.

On a Facebook post, the “It’s Showtime” host revealed that she thought the pain was caused by gas, UTI or contractions. However, it turned out that it was caused by her baby’s movements.

After that, she continued with her showbiz engagements.

Her husband, actor Robin Padilla, said that contrary to the belief of many that Mariel’s work is putting her pregnancy at risk, it actually brings her happiness and helps her to forget her miscarriages last year and face her third pregnancy in a positive attitude.

He said: “Kitang-kita ‘yung aura niya, iba. Doon ko napatunayan na ang makapagbibigay pala ulit ng ngiti sa asawa ko, iyong mga kapamilya niya.”

[You can really see that she has a different aura. That’s when I was able to prove that the ones who can bring back the smile on my wife’s face are her ‘Kapamilya’.]
