  • Ronnie Dayan’s sister claimed ownership of controversial ‘white house’
  • She said her husband could afford to have it built bit-by-bit because he’s an engineer in Qatar
  • Son revealed his father is angry, said house is the fruit of his parents’ labor overseas

MANILA, Philippines – Disputing President Rodrigo Duterte’s claim that Sen. Leila de Lima had gifted to her driver, the sister of Ronnie Palisoc Dayan said it was she and her who husband who in fact owned the controversial ‘white house’ located in Urbiztondo, Pangasinan,

In an interview with InterAksyon, Elmita Torreta said it was her husband who financed the house up from the time construction began in 2011 until it was completed in 2015. She explained that her spouse could afford to do so since he’s an engineer working for a gas company in Qatar.

“Sa akin yon. Bahay ko yon. Pinagawa ng mister ko yun dahil ang mister ko ay engineer sa [It’s mine. It’s my house. My husband had it built because he’s an engineer for] Qatar Gas,” she said.

As proof of their ownership, Torreta presented tax declarations along with the house and lot plan. Since Duterte’s expose however, she said her family cannot live there anymore for fear of any untoward incidents.

For his part, Torreta’s son said his father is insulted by the rumors because they negated all the hard work he and his mother who’s also an OFW have done over the years to put up their house.

“My father was angry when he learned about the rumors saying De Lima had gifted the house to Dayan because that was our house. My parents worked hard to finance its construction,” he told the Philippine Daily Inquirer.

Like his mother, the son also said he was now scared for their family’s safety.

“Anything can happen to us. We are very afraid,” he said.
