Amid the government’s campaign against illegal drugs, ABS-CBN’s talent management arm Star Magic did a drug test on 40 of its artists.
An article published by ABS-CBN News mentioned that an official statement was released by Star Magic stating it conducted “a supervised and voluntary drug test on August 27 to belay rumors of drug use in its community.”
The statement read: “Results were 100% negative for Jake Cuenca, Enrique Gil and Diego Loyzaga and the rest of the Star Magic artists. Star Magic believes in the efforts of the current campaign to keep our homes and working environments drug-free.”
However, the statement did not include the names of the other 37 artists who voluntarily took the drug test.
Several calls were made by various sectors to conduct drug tests in the entertainment industry.
Earlier, “Till I Met You” star James Reid expressed his willingness to undergo a drug test, adding that there is nothing wrong with the current campaign against illegal drugs. In fact, the young actor noted he is fully supportive of the government’s anti-drug campaign.
According to Reid, he favors random inspection, especially in music festivals. “Well, I love going to (music) festivals. I love partying. But, I mean, I guess you have nothing to be afraid of if you did not do anything wrong, so why not?,” he was quoted saying.
Meanwhile, veteran action star Robin Padilla urged caution when naming suspected drug users in the showbiz industry.
