  • The magazine tagged them as “the Filipino love team you need to know”
  • Nadine Lustre and James Reid were interviewed about their onscreen and off-camera relationship

One of the country’s popular love teams, JaDine — comprised of reel-to-real life couple James Reid and Nadine Lustre, has been referred to as “the Filipino love team you need to know” by US-based fashion magazine ‘Teen Vogue’.

In an article published on Monday, August 1, Teen Vogue went into detail to explain the concept of ‘love teams’, which is big in the entertainment industry in the Philippines,  that “completely elevates the portrayal of love in movies, TV, music, and books in a way that westerners don’t even think about.”

“It’s a heavy commitment that the stars take on, but similar to arranged marriages, the actors have a high chance of staying together on and off-camera,” Teen Vogue wrote

“The secret is their willingness to work together — hence the term ‘team’ — to meet the extremely high expectations of hopeless romanticism,” they added.

The teen magazine interviewed James and Nadine to further illustrate how their onscreen relationship turned into off-camera romance.

“The first time we got paired together was for his music video,” Nadine said and James chimed in, “She was the girl I picked, it was just instinct.”

“We never pretended to be together or lied to the fans. We were just friends, but they didn’t think so,” James said; admitting that the tandem was just a job for them.

“When you’re in a love team, you have to work together,” James said, as Nadine explained: “People hated seeing you with someone else. When they did, fans started talking. There was a lot of drama.”

“If you’re in a love team, you get all of the projects together. You’re a package deal,” Nadine added.

During their concert in 2016, the couple made their relationship public.

“It was a good decision and a weight off our shoulders,” James said.
