Nine suspects arrested during a drug buy-bust operation in Tanauan, Batangas were made to do the walk of shame” around the city on Monday, August 23.
Since August is regarded as a “ghost month”, the city government made it as the theme of its latest “walk of shame.” The suspects were paraded carrying a coffin while walking under makeshift wooden arches with words that say: “Ilibing ang multo ng droga sa Agosto” [Bury the ghost of drugs in August].
The video clip of the walk of shame was uploaded in Tanauan City’s Hope Facebook page, which is believed to be Tanauan Mayor Thony Halili’s own Facebook account.
According to GMA News Online, the suspects were nabbed by the city police and members of the Mayor’s Action Group (MAcG). The suspects were identified as Arwin de Sagun, a former police officer; Norberto Morales; Roland Padayao; Isagani Upaya; Roi Fajardo; Lotlot Fajardo; John Carlo Inocencio; Gil Panuelos and Jerry Escalillas.
Mayor Halili said he will continue shaming criminals in his city despite protests from the Commission on Human Rights.
He added that his shame campaign against criminals in the city has made his team a target of a demolition job. He shared that an intelligence report is linking MAcG head Allan Fajardo to illegal drugs.
The mayor hinted that a police general linked to “Bilibid 19”, a group of high-profile New Bilibid Prison inmates composed of mostly drug kingpins, is behind the demolition job.
