- Police confiscated more than P600,000 worth of marijuana and equipment in La Union
- A makeshift facility was discovered in a far-flung area in the town of Santol
- No one was arrested during the raid
Authorities confiscated around P632,000 worth of marijuana and equipment in a makeshift facility in a far-flung area in the province of La Union.
The La Union Police Provincial Office (LUPP), along with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Regional Office, discovered 20 marijuana bricks and two plastic bags containing marijuana fruiting tops inside a tent in Sitio Bay-o, Barangay Sasaba in the municipality of Santol.
Also seized was a hydraulic jack that is used to compress marijuana leaves, and one weighing scale.
The authorities immediately destroyed the hydraulic jack by burning it onsite.
Initial investigation indicates that the facility may have been used to process the marijuana leaves and has already been in operation for at least six months prior to the raid.
No arrests were made during the raid; however, officials are also looking into the extent of the operations in that particular facility.
“Posibleng hindi lang sila sa Santol nagsu-supply. Baka pati sa nearby towns hanggang Manila. [It is possible that they are not just supplying in Santol. Maybe even in nearby towns, all the way to Manila],” explained La Union Police Provincial Public Safety Company commander Police Superintendent Joseph Fajardo Jr. to ABS-CBN News.
Last August, authorities discovered a 1,000-square-meter marijuana plantation with P360,000 worth of marijuana plants in the town of San Gabriel in the same province.
Another raid in the same town last June yielded more than 25 kilograms worth of marijuana with an estimated value of P627,500.
